5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche

By Andrew Hobgood and Evan Linder

Directed by Cat Gleason

The Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein are having their annual quiche breakfast. It’s 1956, at the height of the Cold War, and the threat of nuclear war is in the air. The women are awaiting the announcement of the society’s highly coveted prize for the year’s winning quiche when warning sirens sound. This comedy combines elements of farce and comedy of manners while featuring relationships of warmth and tenderness.

Roles:

  • Lulie Stanwyck - President

  • Wren Robin - Events Chairwoman

  • Dale Prist – Historian

  • Veronica “Vern” Shultz - Building & Grounds

  • Ginny Cadbury - Secretary

Casting note:

The characters are written as women in their 20s to early 30s in 1956. As such, they perform their assigned genders within the normative limits of 1950s America. While that gender presentation may shift a bit during the course of the play, given the severe social consequences of not performing their “femaleness” correctly, they carefully conduct themselves as cisgender women.

We invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles with which they most identify. No role is specified for any race or ethnicity.
